The Halifax Assitance Fund

Welcome to the Halifax Assistance Fund’s online home.  In 1866, when several leading citizens of Halifax founded our organization, they did so with a mission to help the less fortunate in our community.  Unfortunately, over 141 years later the needs still exist, and are even more pressing than before.

On our pages you’ll learn of our focus of helping children and youth.  You’ll learn about programs that reach numbers of school children every day.  And you’ll learn of our legacy and philosophy of offering help in areas where government services are not available to meet pressing needs.

Our work in the community is made possible by a dedicated, all-volunteer organization.  We ensure that the funds entrusted to us are put to the use they were intended for.  In that way over 96 cents of every dollar we raise or spend goes to programs, with only a tiny sliver to overhead and administration.
